Megan, I find your post, VERY Educational AND Interesting.
You have backed up your opinion with some very convincing arguments!
The bottom line for me is that it is ESSENTIAL to maintain a sense of Curiosity and Humility when trying to “interpret” what I observe in any situation from afar.
Unless I actually “KNOW” someone personally, I try to remind myself that, typically, there are parts of the story to which I am ignorant.
Things aren’t always necessarily what they appear to be. I’ve learned this through personal experience. 😊
I doubt Musk did “intend” to make a Nazi salute. If he has Asperger’s (a form of very high functioning autism) as he claims, he probably has problems with social interaction, hence his jumping around on stage and other awkward behaviours. I think this slipped out in his excitement and displayed his true feelings, feelings that others would zealously conceal. Being on the autism spectrum doesn’t make one benign or innocent. It is just a diagnosis based on observable traits. So, for me, the salute’s only contextual importance is that he was excited and doesn’t have the social skills to conceal the real Elon.
Doug, I GREATLY appreciate your response and find it very insightful!
I diverge with you only on your last statement : …”doesn’t have the social skills to conceal the real Elon.”
“You cannot always judge a book by its cover.” And short of being a “mind reader”, I always try to remind myself that “looks can be deceiving” AND “I don’t know what I don’t know.”
I'm one of those who thought Musk made a hash of signalling 'Thank you from my heart' (even though I'm sure he doesn't possess one). But his remarks on saving 'civilisation' certainly struck me as possibly more important to question. You have confirmed that with your excellent piece. Many thanks.
Thank you Jim! I regretted bringing up the salute first, as the semantics are not worth arguing. it’s possible it was a signal of “love”. So regardless of that, the broader context definitely matters here. Appreciate your note!
First of all, The DSM-5, published in 2013, eliminated the separate diagnosis of Asperger’s Disorder and replaced it with a single, unified diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This change was made to reflect the understanding that autism exists on a spectrum, with varying levels of severity and support needs, rather than as distinct categories.
In the DSM-5, individuals who might have previously been diagnosed with Asperger’s Disorder are now diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (requiring
Elon Musk absolutely knew what he was doing. He has boasted his support for a Far-Right Neo Nazi organization in Germany, as reported on several occasions. This organization is illegal in Germany.
I appreciate your deep dive into this political history. Thank you.

Excellent report. Thank you so much for writing it. Great information!!
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it.
Not to mention that Elon was raised in South Africa by a father who thinks the loss of Apartheid was a "very bad thing."

Just a little additional food for thought. 😊
A good comment, Rita. Many, many thanks for making me think.
Thanks, Doug! ☺️
Elon, and all of the Nazis pictured need to be held accountable . The worst is AOC doing a Nazi salute . Do better , people .

Doug and I had a friendly conversation, he means no harm!
